Cell Framework

I have an IP instance working on top of the cell framework, like this:

What is the preferred way to get information such as IMEI, Operator, Network Type, bytes send and recceived, etc?

Also, the BG96 has the ability to send and receive text messages.  I know how to do it with AT commands.  How do I do it properly through the framework?
